Modern Gardening: Covers, Companion, Flips
Have you thought about how you can get more out of your garden? Or what plants grow well together in your fields? This workshop, hosted by the Lilly Center and Kosciusko County Soil & Water Conservation District, will introduce the benefits of cover crops, companion crops, and flips can have for farmers and urban and rural gardeners.
Hear from two fourth-generation farmers, Jeff and Zack Hawkins, and Terris Theisen, Director of Local Food Coordination and Outreach.
The Hawkins Family and Terri Theisen will give a brief instructional talk about how you can benefit from cover crops, companion crops, and crop rotation. You’ll hear how these techniques benefit the successful growth of future crops and help prevent soil erosion, improve soil health, and even increase profitability.
Guests will have the opportunity to ask questions and will also get an instructional packet to take away as well. Experiment with companion cropping in your garden or fields this year!
