Explore Pre-Summer Habitats on Lilly Center Woodlands Expedition

The Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams’ seasonal interpretive hikes, now called expeditions, will kick off the summer in the Winona Lake woodlands. The Woodlands Expedition begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, at the trailhead on Boys City Dr., Winona Lake.

“The name change offers a more memorable, descriptive way to create cohesion between hikes,” said Dugan Julian, events coordinator at the Lilly Center. “It also allows us to expand the type of hikes we host,” he added. Later this year, the Lilly Center will offer expeditions that include unique ecosystems, like urban and lakefront areas.

The Woodlands Expedition will be led by Luke Hunt, a certified master naturalist and long-time guide for Lilly Center nature walks. Participants will learn about riparian buffer zones, pre-summer native plants, wildlife habitats and more. Weather-appropriate clothing, like close-toed shoes and jeans, is recommended. In the event of bad weather, follow the Lilly Center on Facebook to stay updated (@centerforlakes).
