The Lilly Center and WACF Invite Community to Spring Interpretive Hike
The Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams and Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation (WACF) are hosting a spring interpretive hike on Saturday, March 2, 10-11 a.m. The free, family-friendly event will take place on WACF’s property, located at 11586 IN-13 in Syracuse.
The hike will be led by Dr. Nate Bosch, director of the Lilly Center, and Heather Harwood, director of WACF. Harwood will share the history of WACF’s property; Dr. Bosch will delve into the scientific and ecological elements along the WACF’s trails.
“We’ll see things along the way that we can discuss,” said Harwood, “Like wetlands, wildlife footprints and different kinds of trees,” Harwood added. “We’ll also talk about development efforts and restoration projects that led to the look of WACF’s site.”
The Lilly Center hosts interpretive hikes several times each year. “The spring hike is an opportunity for community members to learn how to protect our county’s lakes and streams,” said Bosch. “We’re especially excited to host our spring hike at WACF and enjoy all the natural beauty their property offers,” he added. The hike is open to individuals of all ages and fitness levels. Hikers are encouraged to dress according to weather and trail conditions. Jackets and walking shoes are recommended.
