Your Lake, Your Story
It's your lake. What's your story?
Your Lake, Your Story tells the story of seven lakes from the perspective of 15 families that are much like yours.
After reading these books, you’ll know fascinating trivia (did you know in the infamous John Dillinger raided the Kosciusko County Jail?) and have home-grown recipes (we’re especially fond of Sally Springer’s oatmeal cookies!) Woven throughout, you’ll find original Lilly Center research about the lakes’ health.
We hope you find these bonus resources useful. You’re welcome to download and share the books and resources!
Which book will you download?
Each is totally unique. Collect all five for a complete picture of Kosciusko County’s lake history, present and future.
Tell us about your lake property
We’re conducting a simple citizen science survey to help inform research on each of these seven lakes. If you own property on or near a lake, tell us about it! All responses will be kept anonymous.
Your Lake, Your Story coloring pages
Each book has three unique illustrations that help tell part of that lake’s story! You can download, print and color them right now.
All illustrations were created for these viewbooks by local artist Scott Holladay.
Thriving shorelines lead to healthy lakes
One of the easiest ways to protect local lakes is to encourage practices that protect shorelines and lake habitats.
- Try using native plants in your landscaping.
- Dispose of yard waste the right way.
- Stay in at least 10 feet of water when operating your boat at speeds that create a wake.
Not sure where to begin? Visit our FAQ page for a list of native plant nurseries we recommend.
Your Lake, Your Story was made possible by several generous supporters and the exceptional design team at Blue Note Design. We’d also like to thank the families who shared their stories, Harmony Marketing Group for their printing and fulfillment services, and our own Lilly Center team for many hours of writing and editing.
