Workshop Native vs. Invasive
Join guest presenter Alicia Symons as she teaches you how to distinguish between native and non-native plants. Gain valuable insights into how these plants function, as well as effective management strategies and resources to help you care for your landscape. This is an excellent opportunity to deepen your understanding of both invasive and native plant species, especially with the season approaching when you’ll be ready to get outside and tend to your yard and garden. Don’t miss out on this chance to enhance your gardening knowledge!
Alicia Symons is the Environmental Health Specialist and Chief Sanitarian for the Huntington County Health Department, where she oversees septic system and well permits, and regulates hazardous materials, manure, and water quality programs. She also works on creating ordinances for safe housing and inspects unsafe homes, often condemning those in poor condition.
She holds a Master’s in Environmental Policy and Management, a Master’s Certificate in Natural Resources Management, and recently completed the Purdue Master Gardener course. She is a certified Erosion, Sediment, and Storm Water Inspector and is involved in several professional organizations, including the Indiana Environmental Health Association.
Outside of work, Symons enjoys hiking with her family and two Cavaliers, Colt and Winchester, and participating in 1812 reenactment camping.
This event is underwritten by the City of Warsaw Stormwater Utility.
